Genius new design from Carolina Fontoura Alzaga.

Using old bike chains to create these chandaliers, Algaza addresses the idea of “class codes, power dynamics, reclaimed agency, and ecological responsibility.” Her idea is to question the identity of the upper class (evident in the chandalier design) and contrast it with the industrial, working-class feel of the bike chains.

According to her website, Alzaga “integrates her hybrid identity, global perspective and socio-political interests”, very obvious when you look at this piece of work, which she also calls a proposal. (Probably a proposal to get people talking about the highly avoided topic of class.)
